Kolorowa Dusza: The Interview

LG-feat-kolorowa-dusza-450

What inspired you to start a fashion blog?

I had another blog before this but it wasn’t connected with fashion or even my lifestyle. I wanted to make a blog, which combines my passions. It was an easy decision to start this blog.

Did you follow NYFW? What designers have a great Spring 14’?

I just fell in love with Alexander Wang, Altuzarra and DKNY Collections.

What season(s) of the year is your favorite?

Summer and Autumn.

Gabi is wearing Gypsy Junkies Mimi Tunic

What trends excite you?

Pretty much anything boho – Lace, fringe & crochet are wardrobe staples.

Besides shooting for your blog, what do you love to do?

In my free time I meet up with friends, ride a horse & sports including running & bicycling. I love to travel!

What is on your playlist?

I love indie rock and pop. My playlist has music from bands like Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Disclosure & Florence and the Machine.

What is it like living in Poland?

Every country has its advantages and disadvantages. I like Poland but I get to travel to other countries. I can see how it is in other parts of the world and I love a lot of what I see. The way of life abroad, the people and their relationship with others – it’s very different from Poland.

Most treasured item(s) in your closet?

I love my black Prada handbag, some great Tommy Hilfiger boots, my Lorus watch and all the jewelry from my grandmother.

Style Icon?

Twiggy – I just love her!

Jag Lever Is A New York Gypsetter

Jag Lever wearing the Anna Dress by For Love and Lemons at Electric Frenchie

Rachel of Jag Lever channels Stevie Nicks one day and  Twiggy the next. We love her mixture of vintage and modern style that result in memorable, quirky outfit posts.

Peak into the world of an NYC fashionista in our Q&A:

beacons-closet1. Where are your favorite places to vintage shop in New York?

My favorite places to vintage shop in New York are Crossroads Trading Co (There are 29 locations so check out their site) and Beacon’s Closet. They’re opening a new Salvation Army close to my apartment in Brooklyn and I can’t wait!

 2. Why do you choose to live in NY? What about it do you love?

I chose to live here because it is the center of fashion in the states. I wanted to be able to do what I love and well, let’s be honest… be able to survive doing it! I love that everyone here cares about fashion to some extent. It shows on the streets! People are here to do what they love. It’s the only way you’ll make it here!

3. What encouraged you to start blogging your outfit posts? For instance on lookbook.nu.

for-love-and-lemons-anna-dress-6

A friend had told me back in the MySpace days to join Lookbook. I thought she was kind of crazy to suggest I join a fashion forward website! I wasn’t very fashionable back then. I learned being a member of Lookbook. It really taught me how to style certain things. I just joined and tried it and somehow people liked my posts!

4. As a busy fashion blogger, describe a typical day:

  1. Wake up, eat a big breakfast
  2. Check e-mails
  3. Pick up packages from my post office
  4. Visit showrooms/appointments with brands
  5. Shoot looks (typically 4 get shot in one day)
  6. Answer emails
  7. Edit photos and plan for the following mornings post
  8. Eat dinner
  9. Hopefully go to bed at a decent hour!

I do this every day of the week practically. I don’t really have a “day off” but I love what I do, so every day is a day off!

 5. Your favorite trends for fall?

Plaid and menswear for women. I plan on wearing a lot of button-ups with trousers and suspenders! (See how she nailed this look here).

6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I still see myself with my blog but perhaps I’ll have another job with a magazine or something by then. I have a degree in photography so it would be nice to do something more with that.

7. Your fave items from Electric Frenchie?

8. How long have you played the Ukulele and what prompted you to pick up that instrument?

I started playing about two years ago. A friend of mine had one and I liked to mess around with it so I decided to buy one. It was kind of an impulse purchase!

9. Do you have any siblings?

One older brother. He lives in Michigan. He’s super hilarious and I love him. He has the best sense of humor, so I can look forward to a good laugh when I visit home!

 10. Who inspires you in the fashion world?

I really love Lykke Li’s dark and mysterious style. She wears a lot of Swedish designers that I love like Acne and Minimarket.

How to Master the Rodarte Rosette

rodarte-rosette

During the Fall 2013 runway shows, one thing was apparent… Braids are IN. The models on the Rodarte catwalk stood out above the rest so we did a little investigating on how to do the “Rodarte Rosette”.

1. With Damp Hair start by adding curl reviver mousse spray to add some texture. Blow dry with your fingers to create a loose wavy look. Finger roll some of the strands in the front to create a tighter curl.

2. Use a curling iron and hairspray to create curls from mid-crown down.

3. Grab a section of hair from each side of the front, and braid, connecting at the back of the head. Wrap the ends of the braids into a rosette shape, and secure with bobby pins.

4. Grab a section of hair directly below the rosette you’ve created, and braid this straight down to the ends of the hair, securing with an elastic.

5. Smooth out some of the ends, try not to polish the hair too much though because you want a textured, almost messy look to pull this off!

Drink DIY : Cinnamon Iced Coffee

First you’ll need a cold brewed toddy maker. They’re roughly $40 & can be found on Amazon with next day shipping. Instead of brewing coffee in the morning, you’ll have cold brewed coffee concentrate in the fridge (keeps for 2 weeks).

1. Put cinnamon sticks in the concentrate and let it soak in.

2. Fill your cup 25% full with coffee concentrate

3. Add either hot water or ice/cold water depending on your mood.

4. Add cream and sugar

Wa-la! You have a smooth and delicious coffee. To hear the story behind this recipe, check out Could I Have That
